1. Overview
All applications to the British Institute of Assessment Professionals (BIAP) are subject to an eligibility assessment to ensure applicants meet the required professional standards for membership.
By submitting an application and making payment, you acknowledge that you are purchasing an application assessment service, which includes the review and verification of your eligibility for membership.
2. Membership Application
BIAP reserves the right to:
- Approve or reject any application at its discretion
- Request additional information or supporting documentation
- Offer an alternative membership tier where appropriate
Failure to provide requested information within a reasonable timeframe may result in your application being declined.
3. Fees and Payment
Applicants are required to pay the full fee for their selected membership tier at the point of application submission.
This fee covers:
- Administrative processing
- Assessment of eligibility
- Review of supporting documentation
- 12 months of BIAP membership (upon successful application)
All fees are stated in GBP (£) and are inclusive of any applicable taxes unless otherwise stated.
4. Membership Duration and Renewal
Where an application is successful:
- Membership is valid for 12 months from the date of approval
- Membership will automatically renew annually at the applicable rate
By submitting your application, you authorise BIAP to take payment for renewal using your original payment method.
If you do not wish to renew, you must notify BIAP prior to your renewal date.
Cancellation will take effect at the end of your current membership period. No refunds will be issued for any unused portion of membership.
5. Outcome of Application
5.1 Successful Applications
If your application meets the eligibility criteria:
- Your membership will be approved and activated
- No refund will be issued, as the application assessment service has been fully delivered
5.2 Not Eligible for Selected Tier
If you do not meet the criteria for your chosen membership tier, BIAP will:
- Assess your eligibility for alternative membership tiers (where applicable)
- Offer you the option to transfer your application to a more suitable tier
If accepted, your original payment will be applied to the alternative membership.
5.3 Not Eligible for Any Membership
If you are deemed ineligible for all membership tiers, a partial refund will be issued.
An administration fee will be retained to cover the cost of the application assessment service:
- Associate Member: £10
- Member: £15
- Fellow: £20
- Corporate Membership: £50
The remaining balance will be refunded to your original payment method within 5–10 working days. Please note that processing times may vary depending on your banking provider.
6. Your Right to Cancel (Cooling-Off Period)
Under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, you have the right to cancel your application within 14 days of submission without giving any reason (the “cooling-off period”).
However, by submitting your application, you are requesting that BIAP begins the assessment service immediately. At the point of purchase:
- You consent to the service commencing immediately upon payment
- You understand and accept that, once the assessment service has been fully performed, you will lose your right to cancel
- If the service is only partially performed at the point of cancellation, you may be charged for the proportion of the service already delivered, and an administration fee will be retained in accordance with Section 7
Where the assessment has not yet begun and you cancel within the 14-day cooling-off period, you will be entitled to a full refund.
7. Withdrawal and Cancellation (Application Stage)
Outside of the 14-day cooling-off period described in Section 6, the following applies:
Before Assessment Begins
You may request to withdraw your application before the assessment process has started.
- A refund may be issued, minus the applicable administration fee where administrative work has already been undertaken
After Assessment Has Begun
Once the assessment process has commenced:
- You acknowledge that the service is in progress and costs have been incurred
- A refund will not be guaranteed
BIAP reserves the right to retain the applicable administration fee to cover work already completed.
8. Non-Refundable Circumstances
No refund will be provided where:
- Your application has been approved and membership granted
- You fail to provide requested information or supporting evidence within a reasonable timeframe
- You withdraw your application after the assessment has been completed
- Membership has been revoked due to false, misleading, or inaccurate information
9. Right to Refuse or Revoke Membership
BIAP reserves the right to:
- Refuse membership where eligibility criteria are not met
- Suspend or revoke membership where false or misleading information has been provided
- Remove membership where conduct falls below expected professional standards
No refund will be issued in such circumstances.
10. Consumer Rights
This agreement is designed to comply with your rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013.
Nothing in these Terms and Conditions affects your statutory rights.
11. Limitation of Liability
BIAP shall not be liable for:
- Any indirect or consequential losses
- Loss of business, income, or reputation
BIAP’s total liability shall not exceed the total amount paid for membership.
12. Changes to Terms
BIAP reserves the right to update these Terms and Conditions at any time.
Any changes will be published on the BIAP website and will take effect immediately.
13. Important Information
By submitting your application, you confirm that:
- You understand that BIAP provides an application assessment service upon payment
- You acknowledge that an administration fee may be retained where an application is unsuccessful or withdrawn
- You understand that membership will automatically renew unless cancelled in advance
- You have read and agreed to these Terms and Conditions prior to purchase
